Embodiment of Reciprocal Roles

(2 webinars from 4pm to 7pm AEST Tues the 18th and Wed 19th October 2022)

Designed to be of practical value to CAT trainees and experienced practitioners, this training day aims to provide a stimulating and refreshing forum to explore the embodiment of reciprocal roles through the subtle movements of our everyday relating.

In the past twenty years we have seen a remarkable convergence upon the importance of the body in psychotherapy. There are many specialist trainings for working actively with the body, especially in the trauma field. These approaches have much to offer but tend to focus on the nervous system and the processing of traumatic experience. Some approaches seek to change something about embodied experience in the service of therapeutic work, for example the use of ‘grounding’ techniques as a support for processing or for the regulation of affect.

In this approach – an integration of CAT with emerging theory from Gestalt – we will explore how attention to moment-by-moment relational movement patterns can illuminate key relational themes. We will look at how bringing this to our awareness as clinicians, as part of our self-reflection and supervision, provides support for the therapeutic process. We will also begin to explore the skills of working with this actively with our clients, to build and add richness to our mapping and reformulatory processes.

The 2 webinars (starting at 4pm 7 finishing at 7pm ) will include introductory theory, experiential exercises and the demonstration of clinical work in this style.

Our workshop facilitator:
